Hello and welcome!
I know that if you’re on my website you’re likely in distress or at least seeking a change, so I'm glad you're taking the first step and looking for a therapist. Here is a quick overview of how I approach therapy (as I know that reading lengthy blocks of text on profile after profile can be stressful, especially when you aren’t feeling great).
◈ I'm experienced in treating many different kinds of issues ◈
Life is complicated and mental health issues are too. I take a holistic approach to therapy that incorporates all the issues and symptoms that may be contributing to your distress. Instead of specializing in just one issue, I’ve been trained to treat most mental health concerns through the application of different evidence-based techniques.
◈ I use evidence-based practice (and not just cognitive behavioral therapy) ◈
In my practice, I prioritize creating a warm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental space, as research shows this is the foundation for effective therapy. From there, I integrate and adapt different evidence-based interventions based on your unique needs and concerns.
◈ Most often, I focus on direct emotional change ◈
Over my years of work, I have found that trying to change client's thought and behavior patterns, while very useful at times, tends to be frustrating for many when used in isolation. After learning and trying out numerous kinds of interventions, I found that those built around directly transforming the emotional experience tend to be more effective in helping clients feel better, faster.
◈ I value open and non-judgmental conversation (especially about sex) ◈
You certainly don't need to be having issues related to sex to come see me, but I believe it’s important to mention them specifically. While concerns related to sexual functioning and wellness are common, there are also societal taboos and shame that often make us uncomfortable and hesitant to talk about sex. I therefore encourage you to talk with me about sex, sexuality, or anything that may make you feel extra nervous or ashamed.
If you have any additional questions or concerns I'd be happy to talk with you further. Please use the "contact" button (at the top of the page or banner) to request a consult via email, select the "request appointment" button to schedule a consult online, or call my office at 813-291-0969 to set up a free 15-minute phone consultation (please note that this conversation would not establish therapeutic relationship or contract).
You are also welcome to use the contact form for more straightforward non-confidential questions. If you are ready to schedule an intake appointment please give me a call at 813-291-0969.
*Please note that services are only offered to adults (18+) via telehealth at this time*
